NAAAP Boston’s 2014 Future Leader Award Winners

The National Association of Asian American Professionals Boston Chapter (NAAAP Boston) is proud to announce Jerry Li and Yi Ren Fung as the two recipients of the 2014 NAAAP Boston Future Leader Award, including Richard T.N. Lee Future Leader Scholarship Award and Liberty Mutual Future Leader Scholarship Award.

 

Each student will receive $4,000 of scholarship award at the NAAAP Boston Scholarship Gala on May 12. The Scholarship Gala will be held from 6 to 9 PM, at Northeastern University’s Curry Student Center Ballroom, 360 Huntington Ave., Boston.

 

This year’s scholarship gala will feature two distinguished guest speakers, Massachusetts State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz and Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu. Senator Chang-Diaz is widely recognized as a strong advocate for public education, access and opportunities for low-income and immigrant communities. Councilor Wu has previously served on the board of Kwong Kow Chinese School in Chinatown. Her priorities include connecting education and employment through partnerships and supporting pathways to economic stability for all Boston families and residents.

 

The NAAAP Boston’s Future Leader Award is the premier scholarship for Asian American high school students in the Greater Boston area. With the purpose of aspiring leaders in the Asian American community, this scholarship awards outstanding students based on their academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, community service, work experience, financial circumstances and leadership potential. Since the inception of the Future Leader Award in 1987, the NAAAP Boston has given over $150,000 to 80 high school seniors.

About the Two Future Leader Award Winners:

Jerry Li, currently attending Quincy High School and living in Weymouth, is the winner of Richard T.N. Lee Future Leader Scholarship Award. He plans to go to Northeastern University.

Yi Ren Fung is the winner of Liberty Mutual Future Leader Scholarship Award. She resides in Quincy and is from North Quincy High School. She plans to attend Rice University.
