Anita P. Sharma, Executive Director of the Political Asylum Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project, was honored at Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s 2016 Top Women of Law event. The Top Women of Law awards highlight women who are pioneers, educators, trailblazers, and role models in the legal field.
Founded in 1989, PAIR is the premiere provider of pro bono immigration services to asylum-seekers and immigrants unjustly detained in Massachusetts. PAIR serves over 1,000 clients a year and has a 95% successful outcome in its asylum cases. Anita joined PAIR in 2002 as a staff attorney, and directed PAIR’s asylum program until 2015, when she became Executive Director.
Each year, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly honors women attorneys who have made tremendous professional strides and demonstrated great accomplishments in the legal field, which includes: pro bono, social justice, advocacy and business. “It is a profound honor to be recognized by Mass Lawyers Weekly in this special category of Top Women in Law,” said Ms. Sharma, “and to be named among these 49 spectacular women who have given so much of themselves in the practice of law, many of whom I know and deeply respect. I feel so fortunate to be in legal services and to work with asylum-seekers in need. My clients inspire me on a daily basis with their strength, courage, and resilience.”
The annual awards event was held on October 27, 2016 at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston, MA, where Ms. Sharma, along with 49 other Top Women honorees, was recognized for her outstanding accomplishments in the legal community.
