Joslin Diabetes Center’s 18th annual High Hopes Gala celebrates patients, caregivers, donors and researchers, while spotlighting the leading-edge patient care and innovative research initiatives that make Joslin the world leader in the fight against diabetes. The fabulous black-tie event benefits Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund, which directly supports the Center’s greatest needs in research, education and clinical care.
This year’s Global Achievement Award honoree will be Lori Laffel, M.D., M.P.H., Chief of the Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Section at Joslin Diabetes Center, and the Spotlight on Hope honoree will be William Matthews, a 13-year-old patient of Dr. Laffel’s and an avid diabetes advocate.
Emceed by J.C. Monahan of NBC Boston, the evening begins with a lively cocktail followed by entertainment from the Hip Pocket Orchestra. Special guest Jason Varitek, a former Red Sox catcher and team captain, will be one of the featured speakers, and in addition to a silent auction, Billy Costa of NESN’s Dining Playbook and Kiss 108’s Matty in the Morning will lead a live auction. Guests will have the chance to win a weeklong stay in a private home in the South of France complete with a personal chef, items donated by Varitek such as Red Sox tickets, exclusive batting practice passes, and signed jerseys and many other fantastic items and packages.
