AiVi Nguyen
Partner – Bowditch & Dewey, LLP,
AiVi Nguyen is a partner at Bowditch & Dewey, LLP, a prestigious mid-sized law firm that has been serving Massachusetts for over a century. She is the child of Vietnamese refugees and grew up in poverty. She joined Bowditch in 2009, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and Boston College Law School. Her primary practice is complex business litigation, an area of law that is not traditionally occupied by young women of color. However, AiVi excelled as a practitioner and quickly became a leader at her firm and in the community. She was elected into Bowditch’s partnership in 2016, when she was just 31 years old, the youngest in the firm’s history.
Throughout her career, AiVi has been a vocal proponent of the idea that firms must focus on diversity and inclusion, not just because it is the right thing to do morally and ethically, but because it makes business sense. AiVi knows from first-hand experience that having a heterogeneous team makes a firm more successful. She believes that in a world where the client base is diversifying it is incumbent on a law firm to consciously mirror the prospective clients, or it will be left behind.
AiVi has been the Chair of Bowditch’s Diversity Committee since 2013 and is also the Vice Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council for the City of Worcester, which is a committee of 9 tasked with examining and advising the City Manager on how to better diversify the City’s workforce. AiVi is also the Chair of the Board of the United Way of Central Massachusetts, the youngest and only Asian woman to hold the position in the organization’s 98-year history.
