Ty Ekelemu is a motivated and experienced Internal Audit executive specializing in the financial services industry. She is responsible for assessing risks, developing audit strategy, and executing audits of Corporate Compliance and Third-Party Risk Management. She focuses on delivering high-quality and timely audits while developing staff. Ty is recognized for her effective project management skills and ability to partner effectively with global leaders across the business. When identifying issues and discussing remediation actions, she has the necessary communication and negotiation skills to manage conflict and drive change to improve controls and business processes. A solid talent developer, Ekelemu provides coaching, guidance, and timely performance feedback to the team. She’s earned Excellence awards for above and beyond performance at GE Capital and State Street. Ty Ekelemu is also a former Board member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Chicago Chapter.
Passionate about inclusion and diversity, she spearheaded diversity recruitment initiatives through her role as Co-Lead of the African American Forum (AAF) Chicago Recruitment Committee at GE Capital. Her efforts helped earn the chapter an ICON award for achieving the company’s diversity goals. In the past five years, She’s partnered with Paul Francisco, the Chief Diversity Officer at State Street, to help implement and execute the company’s inclusion and diversity strategy. Currently, She serves as Co-Chair of the Audit Women’s Network, a sub-chapter of the award-winning Professional Women’s Network at State Street. In addition, Ty held Board positions with the NABA Chicago and NBMBAA Boston chapters.
Ty’s career journey and philanthropy have afforded her the opportunity to speak to audiences of over 150 people at conferences nationwide with the aim of promoting inclusion and diversity in the fields of auditing, accounting, and finance, and in the financial services industry.
A strong believer in “lifting as you climb”, Ty Ekelemu actively volunteers her time to share my knowledge and experience to inspire high school students, company interns, and young professionals. She also created an online job search course for diverse and mid-career professionals in transition.
