Known for reinvigorating the street-dance community in Philadelphia, Raphael Xavier is an alumnus of the groundbreaking hip-hop dance company Rennie Harris Puremovement and a recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. After break-dancing for 32 years, he presents a new work, Point of Interest, that challenges the highly physical art form and the viewer’s perception of hip-hop as being solely associated with youth.
