Olympics: Brazilian Bites & Cachaça Cocktail

To coincide with the 2016 Olympic games hosted in Rio de Janeiro, area venues are serving up Brazilian food and beverage specials.

 

Bukowski Tavern (1281 Cambridge Street, Cambridge – 617.497.7077 – bukowskitavern.net/cambridge-2/):

From August 5-21, chef Brian Poe will be going for the gold when he dishes out a Brazilian-inspired culinary and cocktail special in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio:

  • Feijoada Burger – a ground bacon and pork patty topped with a traditional Brazilian stew of black beans, pork, andouille sausage and braised Russian kale ($14; pictured below)
  • Mango Caipirinha – Rio-based Avuá Prata cachaça with lavender simple syrup ($14)

 

Cask ‘n Flagon (62 Brookline Avenue, Boston – 617.536.4840 – www.casknflagon.com):

Cask ‘n Flagon in Fenway will be screening the Olympics daily on some of their 60+ HDTVs. With Brazil being the world’s largest producer of guavas, the bar team also will shake up a specialty cocktail:

  • Guava Cooler – Cruzan rum, vanilla liqueur, guava nectar, fresh lime juice and simple syrup ($11)

 

The Independent (75 Union Square, Somerville – 617.440.6022 – www.theindo.com):

The Independent in Somerville’s Union Square is getting into the Olympic spirit by taking a vacation – sans passport – with their aptly themed summer cocktail featuring the main spirit of Brazil:

  • Jets to Brazil – cachaça, fresh lime, Falernum, coconut water ($10; pictured below)
