Hakim Named Berklee’s Percussion Department Chair

Master drummer Omar Hakim has been named Berklee’s new percussion department chair.

Hakim has contributed to countless hits, including David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” with his unique drumming style. With a career spanning over 40 years, Hakim has hundreds of albums to his credit, collaborating with scores of prominent artists, including Miles Davis, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, D’Angelo, and the late Bowie. He succeeds John Ramsay, who served as Berklee’s percussion chair since 2008.
