Gender Gets Reel

Gender Reel is a coast-to-coast traveling film and art event dedicated to enhancing the visibility of gender non-conforming, gender variant/queer and transgender people, identities and experiences. Our goal is to present narratives in film and art that push the boundaries of the gender binary system. Through this means, we hope to empower filmmakers and artists to create work reflective of this mission by providing an accessible and embracing platform where their work can be showcased.

The festival will end December 9th with Latinx Night and a screening of the documentary El Canto del Colibri!, a story of Latino fathers dealing with issues of immigration, faith, marriage equality, machismo, culture, and the process of their LGBTQ children coming out.

Gender Reel remains committed to making the festival completely accessible to all. To festival organizers, accessibility includes everything from maintaining a free submission process to making sure the cost to attend the event is fair and reasonable, and in some cases FREE. No one will be turned away as long as seating is still available. If you are unable to purchase a ticket but would like to attend, please contact organizers by email at [email protected] and put in your subject line “Requesting a ticket.”
