Austin, TX Today, international nonprofit The Unmentionables announces fashion designer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Kimora Lee Simmons as its lead Global Ambassador. Simmons will help refugees access protection from exploitation and trafficking, utilizing her business acumen and passion for empowering others while becoming a powerful new voice for human rights.

Simmons’ partnership with The Unmentionables initially began in 2017, and her role in the organization has steadily grown. As The Unmentionables’ Global Ambassador, Simmons will work directly with the organization to help improve the lives of people in displaced communities. Along with her unwavering commitment, Simmons will continue to advocate for migrants at risk of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Currently more than 75 percent of migrant and refugee children trying to reach Europe via the Central Mediterranean route face appalling levels of abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. As part of her continued humanitarian work with The Unmentionables, Simmons is committed to helping protect displaced people from these horrors.

“Kimora’s commitment to advocating for the intimate health rights of displaced people has been clear since our first conversation, as has her deep compassion and concern for those in the displaced community at risk of sexual exploitation,” says The Unmentionables CEO and co-founder Kaleigh Heard. “We are thrilled to be welcoming an ambassador like Kimora who believes strongly in a hands-on approach to giving, and our team looks forward to introducing her to our international projects in the near future.”

“I feel so fortunate to be able to contribute to the tireless humanitarian work that The Unmentionables does around the world,” says Simmons. “The plight of the refugees that this organization supports are in dire need of support and global attention. It’s so important to me to share this experience of giving back with my own family  – I want refugee families to know that we have not forgotten them and that we are there to keep them safe.”

As part of her collaboration with The Unmentionables, Simmons and her family traveled to Texas to help with organization’s relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey. She also has helped to fund the distribution of reusable menstrual products through our partners in Kenya and matched donations on Giving Tuesday, raising a record-breaking fundraising amount for The Unmentionables with the help of her large and enthusiastic social network. The funds raised on Giving Tuesday and a generous personal donation from Simmons, helped finance the opening of a new resource center for refugees in Athens, Greece earlier this year. The center provides safe and consistent access to basic, important intimate health products as well as sexual health and reproductive education and care to refugees.

This summer, Kimora Lee Simmons plans to travel with her family to Greece to contribute efforts to migrant and refugee families on behalf of The Unmentionables, providing training, supplies, and education to the refugee community. She will further her philanthropic commitment to this cause throughout the year, dedicating fundraising efforts to further the impact of the humanitarian global aid The Unmentionables provides to those most in need.
