ALPFA Boston and BB Squared consulting are teaming up to help support the Boston Pride kick-off party, Pride Lights, on Tuesday, June 6. Along with showing their support for the start of the city-wide gay pride celebration, the organizations are hoping to use their presence at the event to begin a dialogue between their membership and the LGBTQ and allies community.

“Being part of Pride Lights is a great opportunity for us to meet with the members of the LGBTQ [community] for an evening of networking and relationship building in a more relaxed atmosphere than inviting community leaders to sit around a table in a conference room,” explained previous ALPFA Boston President Jessyca Feliciano, one of the driving forces behind the event. “We’ll really be there to listen to people, to hear their comments and concerns, and then bring them back to the office where we can begin finding ways to keep the conversation between ALPFA and the LGBTQ [community] going.”

Pride Lights is a longstanding Boston Pride tradition meant to celebrate the rich and diverse history, culture, and identities of the LGBTQIA community. The tree lighting, which takes place outside the Boston Center for the Arts, has historical significance as being the symbolic launch of Boston’s Pride every June of each year. At this year’s Pride Lights, festivities will be kicked off with a 7:00 p.m. with a performance by The Theater Offensive, followed by the tree lighting at dusk, culminating with a “light-inspired” performance curated by BCA.

Feliciano, along with fellow ALPFA member Sean Driscoll will be present for the evening’s entire schedule, handing out ALPFA embossed glow sticks to add flair to the celebration.

“We’re very excited about the event and the future we can build with the LGBTQ community,” Feliciano added. “It takes the idea of diversity to a new level.”

Anyone planning to attend the Pride Light events who wishes to meet President Jessyca Feliciano or Sean Driscoll is encouraged to RSVP via this link so they can keep you apprised of the “meet up” details and also be on the lookout for you if you plan on joining part way through the evening. ALPFA Boston’s hope is that this group participation in honor of PRIDE is the beginning of a conversation and a relationship building amongst ALPFAmilia’s LGBTQ and allies community.
